I went on a quilting cruise to Alaska in August! Best.Decision.Ever. (despite getting COVID at the end). Alaska has been on my bucket list for so long…check! I would so love to go again and do a little of the land portion, too. As is the custom on a few cruises I’ve been on, people decorate their cabin doors — for fun and, as a practical matter, to quickly find your cabin in those long hallways!
My friend, Donna, came with me on the cruise. Donna is not a quilter, but an avid reader. I decided to meld our two interests by creating a mini-quilt of her favorite books for our door. I used the Tall Tales FPP pattern and acrylic template by Kate Basti to create my mini-quilt. I asked Donna for a list of her favorite books and I tried to adapt the book covers into the mini-quilt. Here is the mini-quilt….can you guess the books?

The books are:
Top Left — Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Top Right — The Measure by Nikki Erlick
Bottom Left — The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
Bottom Right — The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher
The quilting portion of the cruise was sponsored by The Sisters at Sew in Stitches in Pocatello, Idaho. I had met them at a retreat a couple of years ago and love their style. We all had a blast and I met so many more quilty friends, too! The quilt pattern and fabrics were amazing…I would have completed more, if I hadn’t started feeling poorly. It currently sits in my UFO pile!
If you ever have the opportunity to do a quilting cruise, I say go for it! Happy Cruising!
